The Beginning


      We run haphazardly through life, spending  our youth
          With the awareness of our  freedom of choice,
                   we want to experience life,
               we want to take big bites out of it
                  There is passion, loneliness;
                Fear, anger, sadness and sorrow,
                   joy, accomplishment, pride
                everything is peaks, and valleys
                   We burn up with experience
           We feel invincible; death is something that
                happens to others, to old people
In this roller coaster of life, we hang on for the wild ride.  
                         We are becoming

                    With time and experience
                       we  learn   wisdom.
                    We gradually become aware
                 that with the freedom of choice
          comes the responsibility, the accountability
                        for our actions.
              This is the beginning of true wisdom.
                  Our actions in life, and how
                   we react and deal with them
                 starts shaping us, in earnest.
                 Each day we are presented with
                     having to make choices.
             We learn that for every choice we make,
                     we forfeit  something,
            sometimes it is tangible, sometimes not.
                         We are becoming


                Next comes the time in life that
                      we "reap what we sow"
                    Or perhaps, we recognize
                     more fully that we are
                       paying the price of
                          our actions.
                  Sometimes those consequences
                       come from the past.
              and can change the entire direction
          of our life, and the lives of those we love.
                         We are becoming

                 The next stage of life is today
           This is the most introspective time of life
              We  see the culmination of our life.
                We see the mistakes we have made,
             We see where we might have changed our
            action, and thereby changed the outcome.
            Today is the day we see that for most of
               our life, we have looked behind us,
                    That we have traded today
                  for the ghosts of yesterday.
              We experience a depth of regret that
                 can only be felt by another who
                   has lived in the same way.
             Truly, we stand at a crossroad that is
                    unlike any other in life.
           We can mourn the time that is forever lost
                       Or we can live today

                         And in the end,
           it's not the years in your life that count.
                  It's the life in your years

                         We have become
